Macaws come from Mexico and throughout South America.
Most Macaws in the wild are endangered due to destruction of the rainforest and capture. Macaws
are social birds and need plenty of interaction. They can be very loud. They also need plenty of
untreated wood that they can chew and destroy. Macaws are highly intelligent and love playing games.
They love the interaction during games such as Peek A Boo. Macaws can live for 30 plus years
depending on the species.
Hyacinth Macaws (the gentle giant) are the largest of all Macaws. They are very slow to wean
staying with their parents in the wild for one year. They need a higher fat diet than other
Macaws requiring Macadamia Nuts daily. At over 40 inches in length they normally weigh between
1200-1600 grams as an adult. It can take up to 5 years for them to reach their full length
Macaws daily need fresh fruits and veggies along with medium to large sized pellets
(Roudy Bush and Zupreem) and almonds, walnuts, and macadamia nuts(for hyacinths only)
and of course fresh water.
Rainbow Realm Aviaries breed Hyacinths, Greenwings, Blue & Golds, Catalinas, Red Fronts,
Blue Throats and Hahns Macaws.
